I agree with this quote, only because I can actually can testify to this quote.  I understand that I have a long ways to go on building my knowledge of wisdom and on education.  Everyone should have an independent mind of their own or at least want to have one.  In James Baldwin's, "A Talk to Teachers," he explains how he is not an educator, but his morals shows that he knows what he is talking about.

If all grading in the world were to be abolished, how would we ever know where we stand and where we want to get to.  Abolishing grading would be the number one error in our society education.  According to Paul Goodman, writer of A Proposal to Abolish Grading, we should abolishing grading.  He states, "What a grim waste of young life and teacherly effort."  I totally disagree with this statement.  If we did not have grading, we would not have any structure in our schools.  Grading help us students to want to achieve more. For instance, if I go home with a C or a B, I am going to obviously want an A, because far as I know, that is the highest ranking in basically saying, "I have achieved this subject."

A grade of an A, B. C, D, could have standards as high as the teacher want them to be.  Even though you may have to stay in that range of letters, they could stand for whatever you want them to stand for.  The students can always go above and beyond what is required of them.  Its up to them to make that grade what it is really worth. 

Paul Goodman- "But I submit that this set up itself makes it impossible for the student to become a master, to have grown up, and to commence his own."  As I stated before, it is up to the student to go above and beyond.  Who says that the grading scale holds students back.  Its only true if the student themselves think it.

"I Have a Dream"

I am now blogging my thoughts on the internet.  I have a dream that our entire human race will be able to respect each other's color. We are all human. The color of our skin should not control who we talk to, walk with, or who we get along with.

We should not let others take our glory away, knowing that we have a mind to want to learn and think. We should not allow our minds to be corrupted with evil. We should not allow others to discourage us no matter how hard trial is.

We should not dwell on the fact that there may always be racial hatred. We should not dwell on how some of us may never be able to ride in a nice car, or cook in a nice kitchen or even use a nice restroom. We should not dwell on the fact that we may never be able to see the top of the world, let along control our destiny. We should dwell on the fact that we are free and how we should continue to make change.

I quote Dr. Martin Luther King when he says, "we cannot stand alone." Everyone in this world needs someone. We should have the mind set to want to help others to become the best they can be, despite their skin color or differences from yours.

One day we will be able to hold hands proudly with someone of another race, just like small children trying to make their way across a busy street, with confidence and bravery of one another. We will not be shamed to encourage others and their goals in life. We will love having the company of another religion in our own homes.

I dream that will have love, peace, and joy. Love, like a mother's love for her children. Peace, like an old nursing home of soft breathing and the photo albums of old peaceful memories. Joy, like a Sunday morning of laughter, excitement, knowing that you are going to receive the word of God on that day.

The world is a book of questions without an answer. No one knows the future of the book, only the past and the present. I tell you today that it could be a great ending.

An end to all violence. An end to poverty. An end to cold bitter nights. An end to racism. I mean, what does it matter that we do not like the other because of their color, their hair, their speech, or even their walk. At least that's what they say.

We all have the same God, the same ruler, and the same father in God's ways. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I can tell you that it does not make any difference to me, if my friends are African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, or Jewish.  I accept all, and we all should accept.

Today, I encourage others to love one another and to love yourself, because if you do not love yourself, then who will. We need each other today. I quote Dr. Martin Luther King again, "we cannot stand alone."
